MOTORING DOWN THE LINE

The Cowcatcher Round Up takes a look at a fast-growing segement in rail enthusiasm - motorcar or "speeder" runs. Once used by the railroads for maintenance-of-way duty, motorcars are being restored by individuals who take them on weekend rail runs across the region. Runs are common in Texas and Oklahoma and go for hundreds of miles. Many of the runs are sanctioned by the North American Rail Car Operators Association (NARCOA), which has more than than 1,800 members and 11 chapters.
